to open for summer
STRASBURG — Comanche Crossing Museum in Strasburg opens to the public June 1 and remains open through August.
The museum is open daily from 1-4 p.m. and is staffed with three volunteers.

yard sale fund-raiser
WATKINS — The Watkins Wonder Women Relay for Life yard sale fund-raiser is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 17, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18.
The garage sale is in the Interstate Diner parking lot.

set for local church
BYERS — Byers Community Church will host a pancake breakfast benefit starting at 7 a.m., Saturday, May 17.
Cost is $5 per adults; $3 children over age 3; and free for 3 and under.

selling quilt raffle tix
BENNETT — The Bennett-Watkins Lions Club is holding its annual quilt raffle drawing at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at the Bennett Community Center.

needed for feral cats
DENVER — Rocky Mountain Alley Cat Alliance seeks outdoor homes for local feral cats. Because local feral cat colonies are being evicted from their territories, RMACA needs barn and garage homes immediately. Although RMACA practices the trap-neuter-return method of population control,these cats cannot return to their territories.
All cats will be disease-tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to relocation. Interested parties must be willing to feed, water and shelter the cats. In return, properties will be mouse-free. Adoption fees will be waived.

Lawn tractor racing
returns to ’Burg fest
STRASBURG — The Hometown Days Committee has announced the return of the Poor Man’s Indy garden tractor race to this year’s festivities.
A promotional tractor display will take place at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 17, at Nifty 50’s Diner in Strasburg. Rules and entry forms will also be on hand.
The race itself is Saturday, Aug. 11, at Blackstone Ranches.

Harvest Fest org plans
meeting for volunteers
BENNETT — The Bennett Harvest Festival is planning for this summer’s event and needs volunteers for the three-day event — set up on Friday, all day Saturday, and clean-up on Sunday.

DEER TRAIL — The Deer Trail Community Garage Sale & Flea Market will be held during the Deer Trail Jockey Club Demolition Derby at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 25, at the rodeo grounds.

Hwy. 79 construction
underway at Bennett
BENNETT — A Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project to improve state Highway 79 between I-70 and 48th Avenue, including through the town of Bennett, has begun.
Work includes rotomilling and asphalt paving, new curbs and gutters at various locations in Bennett, new signing, striping, seeding and mulching.
Flaggers are alternating one lane of traffic through short work zones between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Delays up to five minutes can be expected. The speed limit is reduced to 30 mph and vehicles wider than 12 feet are restricted from traveling through the work zone.
Brannan Sand & Gravel Co. of Denver is the contractor for the $1.9 million project, which is scheduled for completion in early August.
